I was thinking recently about how overbooked I felt in recent weeks. From work commitments to ministry and family life, I began to wonder why everything in life had to be so much to deal with.
The answer came speedily, of course, it is a lot. When you begin to make intentional choices in your life, the other options will fight back. When it comes to ministry, the commitments can often be unceasing, but I felt God responding to me in that moment. We often swear allegiance to God, but our daily schedules will not easily let us fulfil our obligations. It’s in those resistances that we begin to feel overwhelmed.
Time is one of the ways we serve God, and many things are consistently vying for our attention. If we will keep our commitment to God, it will mean choosing to choose Him in the face of much competition. That choice is not always easy; sometimes it can lead to great discomfort and weariness, but God is worth it.
He is worth the many prayer meetings, the endless worker trainings, the consistent evangelism, even in the face of shyness and the putting people first, even when it’s hard.
So, of course, it feels hard sometimes. We have pledged allegiance to God in a world that is also demanding our loyalty. The deliberateness of the choice we must make every day is to the end that autopilot will not suffice. We must wake up each day and say, today again for my Lord and in exchange, He promises His sufficient grace for us.
