LOL moments

By nature, I’m quite an emotional person and because of that, I have the tendency to be intense sometimes and this can come across in my writings. So today I decided I would write on a lighter subject and see if I can write an entire article without making it too deep, LOL let’s see how far I can go.

Story One: The first person I can remember having a laptop is my older brother and he was so tech savvy to me as I child that I considered him a man before his times. I used to see the VLC (video player) icon on his laptop and I had no idea what it was until much later. Here’s the funny thing, his name is Victor and the icon read VLC so I totally assumed that it was something he had come up with all by himself. It was probably years later I discovered that it was nothing more than an application. I laughed at myself so hard because why not. Well my brother may not have come up with VLC but he remains a genius to me even up till this day.

Story Two: I consider myself to have been a well behaved child but of course I am biased. Growing up, I had these particular cousins who I had a close relationship with and I and my sister would go to their house all the time. There was this particular day that we ended up in their parents’ bedroom and for some reason there was this huge bowl of beans (uncooked) inside the room. Guess what I did? I put my whole head inside the bowl of course, LOL. It was all fun and games until a bean got stuck in my ear. I started freaking out and shedding tears because I was convinced my mother was going to kill me for getting myself into that situation but thankfully one of my older cousins calmed me down and got the bean out. Maybe I wasn’t so well behaved after all, I wasn’t harmed but I can’t say the same for those beans.

Story Three: One particular session when I was in the university, I and my friends resumed pretty late and so there was no room where we all could stay because they had been filled up and so we had to split up. I ended up being the only one in a room with other girls I didn’t know while my other friends were grouped together in twos and threes. It was a bit lonely but I managed to become friends with my new roommates but by second semester I decided to start sleeping in my friends’ room, basically squatting there during the nights. That is when I met this funny girl. She would set like two or three alarms in the night, to wake up and read I guess or something like that. Just imagine it, in the dead of the night when there was usually no electricity, her alarm would ring and ring and she would…never wake up! I’m telling you it was the funniest (not so funny then) thing because every single person in that room, about three of us, would wake up but she would not. We complained to her but it was basically still the same story every week. It was crazy and chaotic but I loved every moment of it.

Story Four: I have two older siblings and as a child I was a tattletale (an amebo in Nigerian parlance) and so my siblings loved to mess with me. There is what we call pure water here in Nigeria (it’s basically water in a sachet wrapper instead of a bottle) and one day after drinking one, my older sister walked up to me and told me it had expired. You can only imagine my reaction, I asked her if I was going to die and she said yes. LOL I cried out my eyes that day, I rolled on the floor screaming and all the while she laughed, she later told me the truth and everything was okay. By the way she could only do that because my mum wasn’t at home, I was a mummy’s girl for the longest time, until my baby sister came along that is.

Bonus Story: This story is also about my siblings, older siblings can be so dubious, trust me I would know. My older siblings, in particular my older sister, decided to play a mind game on me on a particular day and it worked, which they would later regret. My sister told me my name wasn’t my real name and it was actually MAGAMAN. I was like what! LOL, after thorough cajoling, I believed them and when they would ask me what my name was, I could reply “My name is MAGAMAN” in a really ridiculous voice. The problem with their plan was that they didn’t know how to reverse their trick and this only dawned on them when they realized that my mum was returning from work soon and I was still saying “my name is MAGAMAN”. Well I don’t know how they did it but today I go by my real name and not my brainwashed name, how fun would that have been though!

I think I did a good job of making things lighter today but permit me to say this, I know, I know, I’m so dramatic.

When something great happens to me, I would wish that I could freeze that particular moment in time and carry it with me everywhere but life doesn’t work that way, the greatest moments of our lives are just that, moments. The only thing we can do is to enjoy the most out of them as they happen so we can always have beautiful memories to reflect on. If you don’t have any beautiful memories yet, it isn’t too late, try making some today. Choose to be happy, choose joy, choose to see the beauty in the mundane because those moments eventually come to an end and you would wish you could turn the clock back to those times.

Alright I’m done being dramatic, I hope this was a fun read for you and although I still have tons of siblings bullying stories I will end here. Until next time, may you continue to feel the love God has for you so that you may love others.

#throwback. Spot me!
