Have you ever experienced love at first sight? I’m not talking about romantic relationships this time, but rather when you meet someone and all the stars seem to align. You both have the same sense of humour, you like (or dislike) the same things, you admire their fashion sense, and they admire your boldness. Friendship with people like this is usually a breeze, and even the things that are supposed to require effort feel seamless.
Then there is another category of people you meet: things don’t flow so well, and maybe if not for a common mission, you would never be friends in the first place. Friendship with them takes work, and it can feel easier to just let them go than work on the friendship.
It doesn’t always happen this way, but the irony is that the more ‘manufactured’ relationships are the ones where you find a lot of loyal people. My question today is: how do we determine which relationships are good for us? Is it genuinely only the easy ones? Because people often say, “If it’s meant to be, it will not stress you,” but is that really true? I’m not talking about toxic people now, but people you don’t seem to connect with easily at first.
My two cents: time, prayer, and grace. Because of our inability to see the full picture in the moment and our tendency to chase what feels good, we may not always know what is good for us. Sometimes, certain people are more than what meets the eye, and they can bring so much beauty to our lives. I guess all I’m trying to say is, give more people more chances. You only know this version of yourself today with your current likes and dislikes, but your context tomorrow may hold more space for friends like these than you realise.
