Love is a Beautiful Thing

As if trying to navigate adult life isn’t treacherous enough, now add being in love to the mix.

But. The heart wants what it wants doesn’t it? It is baffling how we can be faced with the most serious of life’s situations and still manage to fall in love. I mean, think about all those movies where people get stuck on an island or something like that. What almost always happens is that people still find the time to fall in love. I mean how nau? You are literally about to be eaten by a ginormous snake; how can you still be having love’s time please?

Like many things, matters of the heart don’t make sense and I refuse to even try to pretend like I understand it. Somehow, in all these, this love thing works. I mean, can you count the number of people you know who have gotten married recently? From celebrities to close friends, the world is littered with evidence that love works.

But why doesn’t this always feel true for some people? Disclaimer: I don’t have the answer either. What I do have though, is an invitation for a change of perspective. We cannot keep asking “God when?” because it is sincerely a waste of our precious time. What we can do is be accepting of our various positions per time because you can never force love.

Instead of wallowing, first accept where you are and then enjoy it. The reason is that for most of us, we are going to spend the bulk of our lives married than we did single. So why are you so much in a hurry to get out of one season when you could totally be enjoying it? Laugh hard and long with friends, bond with family and learn to enjoy your own company. Love will find you in due time.

To balance the first point, what I will say next is to put yourself out there and what better way to do that than to work on yourself. It is important that you can answer the question: am I the kind of person, the kind of person I’m looking for is looking for? Read it again.

Then, don’t be afraid. I’ve realised that a lot of us are actually scared of this love thing. The reasons vary from insecurities to sad pasts or just plain out fear of the unknown. Whatever it may be, we cannot let fear rule us. Or maybe a better advise is “do it afraid”. Love afraid, give your heart afraid, be vulnerable afraid, take chances afraid, if that is what you need to do. But no matter what, don’t let fear hold you back.

Back to my opening statement, can you people tell me how you are doing this thing please? Personally, I feel like I don’t have strength. Life just seems like a whole lot, a whole lot of the time so where do I even want to begin from? Funny, it dawned on me that this is actually another popular excuse; I’m waiting for the right time. But when is the right time and who gets to dictate it?

Phew. Decisions, decisions. Today’s post has no conclusion except for give it all to Jesus like I say all the time and like I continually strive to do. There are so many layers to this and I wouldn’t even know where to begin from if I was to try.

Love is beautiful when you take deep thoughts on it. Meanwhile, you love indeed it brings pain however the pain itself strengthens the bond of Love…
