Those Who Trod this Path

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63 KJV

The word of God is spirit and is life, it means the word of God can create the same way humans create, the word spoken by God has life and lives with us, we only have to believe and engage the word of God.

In continuation of the series on the word of God, let’s discuss a man in the bible who believed God’s word and what that did for them; Isaac. Like his father Abraham experienced, there was a famine in the land and in Isaac’s case he was instructed by God not to go to Egypt.

The Lord appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Egypt. Live in the land that I tell you about; stay in this land as a foreigner, and I will be with you and bless you. For I will give all these lands to you and your offspring, and I will confirm the oath that I swore to your father Abraham. Genesis 26:2‭-‬3 HCSB

Isaac in obedience to God’s word stayed in Gerar and the result was God’s blessings amid famine. Isaac in obedience didn’t take the word of God lightly, he didn’t stop at hearing God’s words, he believed and decided to live with this word of God.

He settled in Gerar and did what he would have done if there was no famine, this was Isaac putting God’s word into use; if God has instructed me to stay here I should do what I have been doing, the famine didn’t deter Isaac instead the word of God compelled him to action. Isaac sowed seed in that land, and in that year he reaped a hundred times what was sown. Genesis 26:2‭-‬3‭, ‬12 HCSB. He settled and sowed in the land, and amid famine reaped a hundred times what was sown, this is what happens when we decide to take God for his word and take actions stemming from God’s word. This is what the word of God does for us, it creates a picture of possibility for us, compels us to act by God’s word in faith, and helps us cooperate with God to have what God has said.

In Isaac’s case, God didn’t stop at blessing him with a hundred times harvest, God made him great. The Lord blessed him, and the man became rich and kept getting richer until he was very wealthy. Genesis 26:12‭-‬13 HCSB. God didn’t stop here either, Issac kept prospering and the people of Gerar became afraid of him and asked him to leave their land. I understand the perspective of these people, it must have been hard for them to see someone prospering amid the famine while he is on the same land as they were. What a mighty God, what a mighty move of God!

And yet again, God didn’t stop there, Isaac moved from Gerar to the valley of Gerar, this is the most amazing part for me; God had told Isaac to stay in Gerar and when the people demanded that he leave, he didn’t decide to go far from Gerar, he stayed around the place God had instructed him to stay, Isaac followed God’s instruction to the latter, with faith and trust in God and his words.

Yet again, in the valley of Gerar, God made room for Isaac; He moved from there and dug another, and they did not quarrel over it. He named it Open Spaces and said, “For now the Lord has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.” Genesis 26:22 HCSB.

God has spoken a word, a man took God’s word and ran with it, and the result was an explosive harvest and blessing for the man who took the life of God’s word and lived with it.

God can be trusted

God can be trusted

God can be trusted

He is a man of his word!
